Objectives of the Alumni Association
-
I. To unite all alumni of the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences.
To establish and maintain a strong and lifelong relationship among all graduates of the College by creating a common platform for communication, interaction, and mutual support, thereby fostering a sense of belonging and institutional pride. -
II. To promote friendship, cooperation, and professional networking among alumni.
To encourage cordial relationships and strengthen professional ties among alumni through regular meetings, reunions, networking events, and collaborative initiatives that facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experience, and opportunities. -
III. To support the academic, research, and extension activities of the College.
To actively contribute to the academic growth of the institution by participating in educational programmes, mentoring students, supporting research initiatives, and engaging in extension and outreach activities that enhance the quality of nursing education. -
IV. To provide scholarships, financial assistance, and awards to deserving students.
To institute scholarships, educational grants, financial aid, and merit awards for economically disadvantaged and academically outstanding students in order to encourage academic excellence and reduce financial barriers to education. -
V. To organize Continuing Nursing Education (CNE), workshops, seminars, and conferences.
To promote lifelong learning by organizing Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) programmes, workshops, seminars, conferences, guest lectures, and skill development programmes that enhance the professional competence and knowledge of alumni, faculty, and students. -
VI. To encourage research and publication in nursing.
To motivate alumni, faculty members, and students to undertake quality research, publish scientific articles, present research papers at conferences, and contribute to evidence-based nursing practice and healthcare development. -
VII. To provide career guidance and placement support.
To assist students and alumni in career planning by offering professional guidance, mentorship, career counselling, placement assistance, entrepreneurship support, and information on higher education and employment opportunities in India and abroad. -
VIII. To participate in community health and social welfare programmes.
To promote social responsibility by organizing and participating in health awareness campaigns, medical camps, blood donation drives, disaster relief activities, environmental programmes, and other community service initiatives for the welfare of society. -
IX. To establish collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
To develop partnerships with government departments, healthcare institutions, educational organizations, professional bodies, industries, and non-governmental organizations for academic collaboration, research, training, community service, and institutional development. -
X. To collect donations, grants, and subscriptions for achieving the objectives.
To mobilize financial and other resources through membership subscriptions, voluntary donations, grants, sponsorships, endowments, and contributions from individuals, organizations, and funding agencies for the effective implementation of the Association's objectives. -
XI. To undertake any lawful activity for the welfare of alumni, students, and society.
To undertake and promote any lawful educational, charitable, cultural, professional, or social activities that contribute to the overall development and welfare of alumni, students, the institution, and the community, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Association.

Income and Property: Its utilized solely for promoting its objectives. No portion shall be distributed among members by way of profit.

Dissolution: The Association may be dissolved according to the provisions of the Societies Registration Act, 1860. After settlement of liabilities, the remaining assets shall be transferred to another society having similar objectives.

General: The other rules which are not covered in the Rules & Regulations will be adopted as per provisions of the Society Registration act, 1860.
Rules and Regulations
I. MEMBERSHIP
-
1. Categories of Membership
- a. Life Member: Any eligible alumnus/alumna who pays the prescribed one-time life membership fee as approved by the General Body shall become a Life Member of the Association and shall enjoy all the rights and privileges of membership.
- b. Annual Member: Any eligible alumnus/alumna who pays the annual membership fee prescribed by the General Body shall be admitted as an Annual Member. The membership shall be renewed annually upon payment of the prescribed fee.
- c. Honorary Member: The Governing Body may confer Honorary Membership upon distinguished individuals, eminent academicians, healthcare professionals, philanthropists, or persons who have rendered exceptional service to the College or the Association. Honorary Members may participate in the activities of the Association but shall not have voting rights unless otherwise decided by the General Body.
3. Membership Fee: The membership fee for Life Members and Annual Members shall be determined and revised, whenever necessary, by the General Body. At present Rs. 500/- per candidate. All fees collected shall be utilized solely for achieving the objectives of the Association.
4. Rights and Responsibilities of Members:
Every member shall have the right to:- Participate in the meetings, programmes, and activities of the Association.
- Vote and contest elections, subject to eligibility under these Rules.
- Receive information regarding the activities and financial affairs of the Association.
- Offer suggestions for the development of the Association and the College.
- Uphold the objectives and reputation of the Association.
- Abide by the Rules and Regulations of the Association.
- Cooperate with the Governing Body in achieving the aims of the Association.
II. GENERAL BODY

1. Composition: The General Body shall consist of all registered members of the Alumni Association.
2. Powers and Functions: The General Body shall be the supreme authority of the Association and shall have the power to:- Elect the Office Bearers and Executive Committee Members.
- Approve the Annual Report submitted by the Secretary.
- Approve the audited Statement of Accounts.
- Approve the Annual Budget of the Association.
- Frame, amend, or repeal the Rules and Regulations of the Association.
- Consider and approve important policies, projects, and developmental programmes.
- Decide upon any other matter affecting the welfare and functioning of the Association.
- One Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) shall be held every calendar year.
- Special General Body Meetings may be convened by the President or upon a written request by at least one-third of the members of the Governing Body.
- Notice of the meeting shall ordinarily be communicated to members at least 15 days in advance.
III. GOVERNING BODY & IV. DUTIES

1. Composition & Tenure: The affairs of the Alumni Association shall be managed by the Governing Body consisting of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and Executive Committee Members. They shall hold office for a period of three (3) years from the date of their election and shall be eligible for re-election.
Duties and Responsibilities:- President: Chief executive and principal representative. Presides over meetings, provides leadership, and ensures objectives are achieved.
- Vice-President: Assists the President and assumes duties in their absence. Coordinates committees and activities.
- Secretary: Chief administrative officer. Maintains records, convenes meetings, prepares Annual Reports, and coordinates programmes.
- Joint Secretary: Assists the Secretary in administrative work and assumes duties in their absence.
- Treasurer: Responsible for financial management, maintaining accounts, collecting fees/donations, and presenting financial statements.
- Executive Committee Members: Assist office bearers in implementing objectives, attending meetings, and organizing events.
V. FINANCE, VI. AMENDMENT & VII. DISSOLUTION

Finance: Funds generated from fees, donations, grants, sponsorships, and events. Utilized exclusively for alumni welfare, scholarships, academic/research programmes, CNE, community service, and administrative expenses. Accounts audited annually by a Chartered Accountant.
Amendment of Rules: Amended only by a two-thirds majority of members present at a General Body Meeting with prior notice.
Dissolution: Dissolved according to Societies Registration Act, 1860. Remaining assets transferred to the College of Nursing, EIMS or another registered charitable/educational institution with similar objectives.
Interpretation: In case of doubt, the decision of the General Body shall be final.
Power of Attorney
We, the undersigned members and office bearers of the proposed College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences Heritage Alumni Association, hereby authorize Mrs. Megala M., Faculty In-charge, to represent the Association before the Registrar of Companies, Puducherry, in connection with the registration of the Association. She is authorized to submit and sign all required documents and to make any necessary corrections or amendments on behalf of the Association.
