Anti-Ragging Committee

College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences (EIMS), Puducherry

Established on: 11.08.2011

Preamble — In accordance with the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, and the guidelines of the Indian Nursing Council, the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences (EIMS), Puducherry, is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and ragging-free campus.

Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited within and outside the college campus, hostels, clinical areas, transportation, and during all academic and extracurricular activities.

Vision

To create a safe, inclusive, and ragging-free learning environment that promotes respect, dignity, discipline, and professional ethics among nursing students.

Mission

  • To eliminate ragging in all its forms.
  • To promote mutual respect and healthy interaction among students.
  • To ensure a secure and supportive educational environment.

Objectives

  • To prevent ragging through awareness and education.
  • To encourage friendly interaction between senior and junior students.
  • To protect the dignity and rights of every student.
  • To provide a confidential mechanism for reporting ragging.
  • To ensure prompt inquiry and disciplinary action against offenders.

Definition of Ragging

Ragging includes any act that causes physical or psychological harm, harassment, intimidation, humiliation, abuse, teasing, or coercion of a student by another student or group of students.

Functions of the Anti-Ragging Committee

  • Monitor anti-ragging measures throughout the institution.
  • Conduct awareness programmes and orientation sessions.
  • Receive and investigate complaints of ragging.
  • Recommend disciplinary action against offenders.
  • Coordinate with the Anti-Ragging Squad for surprise inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with UGC and INC regulations.

Functions of the Anti-Ragging Squad

  • Maintain constant vigilance in classrooms, hostels, campus, and clinical areas.
  • Conduct surprise inspections.
  • Prevent incidents of ragging.
  • Report violations immediately to the Anti-Ragging Committee.

Punishments

Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence, one or more of the following actions may be taken:

  • Suspension from classes.
  • Withholding scholarships or other benefits.
  • Debarring from examinations.
  • Suspension from the hostel.
  • Cancellation of admission.
  • Rustication or expulsion from the institution.
  • Filing of an FIR and legal action as per law.

Meeting Minutes — 17.02.2023

1 Previous Meeting ATR Anti-ragging meeting was held on 17.02.2023 in Principal office for the academic year 2022-2023. The committee approved the previous minutes and safety measures without further discussion.
2 Formation of Anti-Ragging Squad It was decided to formulate a new anti-ragging squad to take rounds in the college and hostel. New anti-ragging members from each class were selected to take rounds in the college and hostel.
3 Orientation and Online Registration Class coordinators were instructed to give orientation to freshers about the anti-ragging committee and available measures. Resolved to ask class coordinators to help freshers with online registration in the anti-ragging helpline website.
4 Monitoring and Reporting Class teachers and team members were informed to take regular anti-ragging rounds and submit report to Member Secretary. Members were asked to give report on anti-ragging activities in the campus for proper documentation.
5 Awareness Seminar Mrs. Hannah Aswini. D.S, Asst. Professor, arranged a seminar on anti-ragging measures for freshers on 21.02.2023. HODs and coordinators were asked to ensure complete attendance of freshers and maintain the event report.

4Awareness Programs for StudentsPanel evaluated ways to improve transparency and create awareness on grievance box and registration availability to students.Committee resolved to deploy information notices and direct tutors to guide students on registration methods.
