Introduction

The College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, was established in the year 2010 with the vision of providing quality nursing education and developing competent healthcare professionals. The institution aims not only to achieve academic excellence but also focuses on the holistic development of students by nurturing their knowledge, skills, values, leadership qualities, and Professional competence.

The Other Backward Classes (OBC) Cell of the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, was established at 22/06/2026. The OBC Cell is committed to provide an environment that supports diversity and respects everyone regardless of colour, religious belief or cultures and also commits to ensure protection of everyone and acting as per the provisions of constitution of India in such matters.

Objectives

  • To ensure proper implementation of reservation policies for OBC students in admission and related institutional activities.
  • To provide guidance regarding scholarships, financial assistance, and welfare schemes available for OBC students.
  • To address grievances and concerns related to equality, discrimination, or academic difficulties.
  • To provide counseling, mentorship, and academic support for the overall development of OBC students.
  • To create awareness among students regarding their rights, benefits, and available opportunities.
  • To empower the faculty and students belong to Other Backward Communities (OBC).
  • To handle the issues of short and long term needs of the OBC students.

Meeting & Reporting

The OBC Cell shall conduct biannual meetings periodically and submit reports regarding activities, grievances, welfare measures, and student support initiatives to the Head of the Institution.

Conclusion

The OBC Cell shall ensure timely documentation and reporting of its activities to promote transparency, accountability and reporting of its activities with effective implementation of OBC welfare measures.

Ensured proper maintenance of OBC student records.

Discussed timely dissemination of scholarship information.

Faculty members were requested to assist eligible students with scholarship applications.

3. Grievance Redressal

Resolved to address OBC students' grievances promptly and confidentially.

Planned periodic interactions with OBC students.

4. Awareness Programmes

It was planned to conduct:

  • Orientation on OBC welfare schemes.
  • Awareness programmes on Government benefits and reservation policies.
  • Career guidance and skill development sessions.
