NSS Activities
Fostering service, leadership, and community engagement among nursing students through the National Service Scheme.
The Program Officer Exchange Programme was organized by the Puducherry NSS Cell at Saratha Gangatharan College on 18th September 2025. NSS volunteers and Programme Officers from various colleges participated in the event, including Mrs. C. Banupriya, Program Officer, along with 10 volunteers from CON, EIMS.
The Programme Officers shared innovative ideas and discussed ways to strengthen leadership, planning, and implementation skills among volunteers. The programme provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and professional development among Programme Officers.
The event reinforced the NSS motto and emphasized the core values of teamwork, service, and shared learning. Finally, group photographs were taken to commemorate the occasion.

The Indian Coast Guard organized a major coastal clean-up drive at Rock Beach on 20th September 2025. The Honorable Governor Shri K. Kailashnathan and the Chief Secretary Dr. Sharat Chauhan inaugurated the program.
The Swachhata Shapath (Oath of Cleanliness) was administered. NSS volunteers from many colleges and schools were deputed for the mass clean-up drive at Rock Beach, Puducherry. Fifteen volunteers from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, actively participated.
Degradable waste, plastic waste, broken bottles, shoes, and chappals were collected and segregated into separate bags. At the end of the program, certificates and refreshments were distributed, and group photographs were taken.

NSS Day was celebrated on 25th September 2025 at the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, with the objective of promoting the spirit of social service and community involvement among students.
The programme began with a welcome address, followed by a brief introduction to the National Service Scheme and its motto, “Not Me But You.” The Principal, Dr. M. Jeyagowri, delivered a felicitation address, emphasizing the importance of selfless service and social responsibility among students.
The Vice Principal, Mrs. D. Kavitha, also addressed the gathering and encouraged volunteers to actively participate in community development activities. An informative session was conducted by Mrs. C. Banupriya, NSS Programme Officer, who highlighted the various activities of NSS and motivated students to contribute towards society and environmental protection.
NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, inspiring students to uphold the values of NSS in their daily lives.

On the occasion of Swachhta Hi Seva, NSS volunteers from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, involved in Campus and Sports ground cleaning on 29th September 2025.
The main objective of the program was to create awareness about cleanliness and encourage students to take part in keeping their environment clean. Fifty volunteers actively participated in cleaning the campus. They collected waste materials and removed plastic litter to promote a cleaner and greener environment.
The event concluded with a pledge to maintain cleanliness and support the vision of a Clean India (Swachh Bharat).

The NSS unit, College of Nursing East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences organized a Blood Donation Camp in the East Coast Hospital blood bank on 6th October 2025. The event was inaugurated by Chairman Dr. N. Murugesan, Vice Chairman Dr. Sathyaveni Murugesan, Correspondent Mrs. Joyce Varughese, and Principal Dr. M. Jeyagowri, who graced the occasion.
The main aim of the program was to create awareness about the importance of donating blood and to encourage voluntary blood donation among the public. The camp started at 9:30 AM and continued till 4:00 PM.
Screening tests (Hb, CBC, Cross Matching) were done for volunteers, among whom 50 volunteers who met the eligibility criteria donated blood. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all donors, medical staff, and volunteers who made the event possible.

The College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, conducted an awareness programme on 17th October 2025 for NSS volunteers on the ill effects of noise and air pollution, with special emphasis on reducing noise pollution during the Deepavali festival.
The programme began with a felicitation address by the Principal, Dr. M. Jeyagowri, who highlighted the importance of environmental responsibility. This was followed by an address by the Vice Principal, Mrs. D. Kavitha, who encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly practices.
An informative lecture was delivered by Mrs. C. Banupriya, NSS Programme Officer, who explained the harmful effects of pollution and motivated the volunteers to spread awareness among the public.
NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme and gained valuable knowledge about environmental protection. The programme concluded with refreshments, and group photographs were taken to mark the occasion.

The National Service Scheme (NSS), Puducherry, in collaboration with the Traffic Police Department and the Puducherry NSS Cell, organized a Deepavali Festival Traffic and Crowd Management Programme on 19th October 2025 at White Town, Puducherry.
The programme aimed to ensure smooth traffic flow and effective crowd management during the festive season, by providing practical exposure to NSS volunteers. Twenty NSS volunteers from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, actively participated in the programme.
They assisted the traffic police in managing vehicle movement and crowd. They gained valuable knowledge and experience in traffic regulation and public safety. The volunteers learned the importance of discipline, coordination, and responsibility while handling real-life situations.
Refreshments were provided to all participants, and group photographs were taken to mark the occasion. The programme concluded successfully, enhancing the practical skills and civic sense of all volunteers.

NSS volunteers from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, volunteered in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll at the Oulgaret Constituency on 5th and 6th November 2025, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.
The objectives of volunteering in the SIR programme were updating voter lists, increasing voter registration, verifying voter details, and removing duplicates.
A total of 20 students from the College of Nursing, EIMS, actively participated in the programme. All the students worked in different areas of the Oulgaret Constituency under their allocated Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Through this programme, the volunteers gained knowledge about the electoral process and developed communication and leadership skills.

The Puducherry NSS Cell, in collaboration with the Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) Hub of the Puducherry Pollution Control Committee, organized a National Conservation Day programme on 25th November 2025 at the Botanical Garden, Puducherry.
The programme aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection and pollution control.
An informative lecture was delivered by Dr. M. Bubesh Guptha, Founder & Director of Universal Eco Foundation, Puducherry, who highlighted the importance of conserving ecosystems and adopting sustainable practices.
NSS volunteers from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, actively participated in the programme. The event concluded successfully, inspiring participants to take responsibility for protecting the environment.

The NSS Unit of the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, organized an AIDS awareness programme on 1st December 2025 at IGGGH&RI.
The Programme Officer Mrs. Banupriya organized the program. Students provided health education on "Prevention and Management of AIDS".
Pamphlets and handouts were distributed to patients and family members, serving to improve awareness regarding AIDS and to clarify their doubts.
Refreshments were distributed, and group photographs were taken at the end.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India, organized an Adventure Camp at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, from 12th December 2025 to 21st December 2025.
From the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, Ms. Keerthana .M, Ms. Keerthana .G, and Mr. Dhayanithi .J were selected to participate in the camp. The NSS Programme Officer Mrs. C. Banupriya was selected as the contingent leader.
The camp aimed to promote adventure activities, leadership qualities, teamwork, and physical fitness among NSS volunteers. Various training sessions and activities such as trekking, rock climbing, and outdoor survival skills were conducted during the camp.
The NSS volunteers actively participated in all activities and gained valuable experience in adventure sports and team coordination. The programme provided an excellent opportunity for personal growth, confidence building, and the development of discipline and cooperation. The camp concluded successfully, leaving the participants enriched with new skills and memorable experiences.

The Hon’ble Vice President of India visited Puducherry on 29th December 2025 and interacted with the youths from various schools and colleges at Kamban Kalaiarangam.
The programme was organized with the objective of inspiring young minds and encouraging their active participation in Nation-Building. During the interaction session, the Hon’ble Vice President addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of education, discipline, and social responsibility. He motivated the students to develop leadership qualities and contribute positively to society.
The session was highly engaging, with students actively listening and gaining valuable insights from his speech. Students from different institutions enthusiastically participated in the programme. A total of 15 students from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, participated in the event.
The interaction provided a unique opportunity for the youths to learn from a distinguished leader and understand their role in shaping the future of the nation. The programme concluded successfully, leaving the participants inspired and motivated to work towards the progress of the country.

NSS unit of College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, observed the National Youth Day on 12.01.2026 based on the theme “Ignite the self, Impact the world.”
Pencil sketch and Elocution regarding the theme were organized. Students actively participated in the events and won the prizes.
A Road Safety Rally was organized by the Traffic Police, Puducherry, in collaboration with the Puducherry NSS Cell on 23rd January 2026. The rally aimed to create awareness among the public about the importance of road safety and the need to follow traffic rules.
Volunteers from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences actively participated in the rally with great enthusiasm. The event commenced at the Gandhi Statue, where participants gathered and were briefed about the purpose of the rally. Carrying placards and raising slogans promoting road safety, the volunteers proceeded through MG Road, attracting the attention of the general public.
The rally concluded at the Beach Road, where the participants dispersed after successfully delivering their message on safe and responsible road usage. The active involvement of the volunteers, especially the nursing students, contributed significantly to the success of the event by spreading awareness and encouraging citizens to adopt safer practices on the road.
Overall, the rally was a meaningful initiative that highlighted the importance of community participation in promoting road safety.
On the occasion of National Voters’ Day, the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences organized various activities on 24th January 2026 to create awareness about the importance of voting and democratic participation.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Principal, Dr. M. Jeyagowri, and the NSS Programme Officer, Mrs. C. Banupriya. The programme included a pledge-taking ceremony, debate, and elocution competition for students. These activities aimed to encourage students to understand their rights and responsibilities as voters and to actively participate in the democratic process.
Dr. P. R. Vinothkumar, Project Coordinator from the Aravindho Society, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He delivered an insightful address highlighting the significance of voting, ethical participation in elections, and the role of youth in strengthening democracy.
Students actively participated in all the events and expressed their views on the importance of voting. The programme was informative and inspiring, fostering awareness and civic responsibility among the participants.
National Voters’ Day was celebrated by the Election Department on 25th January 2026 at Kamban Kalaiarangam. The programme aimed to create awareness about the importance of voting and to encourage active participation in the democratic process.
Ten students from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences participated in the event. The students actively engaged in the activities conducted during the programme and gained valuable insights into the significance of voting and their responsibilities as future voters.
The event was informative and helped to strengthen awareness among students regarding their role in building a strong and responsible democracy.
Students from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences participated in a First Aid Management programme conducted at the beach on 25th January 2026.
The programme was organized by the Amenity Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT) Organization in collaboration with the NSS Puducherry Cell. The main objective of the programme was to create awareness and provide practical knowledge on first aid techniques, especially in emergency situations.
The participating students actively engaged in the training sessions and demonstrations, enhancing their skills in basic life support and emergency care. The programme provided valuable hands-on experience and helped students to understand the importance of timely first aid intervention.
Overall, the event was highly informative and beneficial, equipping students with essential skills to respond effectively in emergency situations.
The College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, celebrated Republic Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. The celebration began with the distribution of the National Flag and safety pins to all students and teachers.
Dr. Sathyaveni Murugesan, Vice Chairman of East Coast Hospital, hoisted the National Flag. The “Flag Song” filled the atmosphere with a sense of national pride and unity.
On this occasion, the Humanity Award was presented to Mr. Bharthi Kannan (B.Sc. Nursing III Year), Mr. Kumarasan (B.Sc. Nursing III Year), Mr. Ahamedh Meeran.A (M.Sc. Nursing II Year) and Jose Mathew (M.Sc. Nursing I Year) in recognition of their valuable contributions to blood donation and social service activities.
All faculty members and students actively participated in the celebration, reinforcing the spirit of unity in diversity and highlighting the importance of Republic Day. The programme concluded with the distribution of chocolates, followed by a photo session.
A Road Safety Awareness Program was organized by the Puducherry NSS Cell in collaboration with the Government of Puducherry Transport Department on 26th January 2026 at Rashtriya Raksha University.
Five students from CON, EIMS participated in the program and actively contributed to the awareness activities. As part of the event, various competitions were conducted to promote road safety messages among students.
Ms. Harini from III year B.Sc secured the first prize in the bubble painting competition and was awarded a cash prize of ₹3,000. Her achievement brought recognition to the institution.
Overall, the program was informative, helping to spread awareness about road safety and encouraging students to actively participate in such initiative safety programs.
The College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, organized a programme on 10.02.2026 at the Auditorium. The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. D. Sathish Kumar, National Awardee, NSS Nodal Officer, Puducherry, and Ms. Mounisha R., Youth ICON, ACET, Puducherry.
The programme began with registration, followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Dr. D. Kavitha, Vice Principal, CON-EIMS. The Felicitation Address was given by Dr. M. Jeyagowri, Principal, and the Organizing Secretary, Mrs. C. Banupriya, NSS Programme Officer, CON-EIMS.
The Special Address was delivered by Dr. D. Sathish Kumar, National Awardee and NSS Nodal Officer, Puducherry. This was followed by a presentation on “MY Bharat” by Ms. Mounisha R., ACET, Puducherry. A Yuva Samvaad session was conducted with the participation of Dr. D. Sathish Kumar and Ms. Mounisha R.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. C. Banupriya, NSS Programme Officer, followed by the National Anthem. The programme was successfully conducted with active participation from faculty and students.

The Puducherry NSS Cell, in collaboration with Supreme Media House, organized the International Women's Day Celebration on 08.03.2026 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Uppallam, Puducherry, as part of an initiative to promote women's empowerment.
The programme aimed to highlight the importance of women's rights, equality, and empowerment in society. A walkathon, along with various activities and sessions, was conducted to inspire and encourage women to achieve their full potential and contribute effectively to social development.
A total of 20 volunteers from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, participated in the programme. The NSS volunteers actively contributed to the smooth conduct of the event and gained awareness about the significance of women's empowerment and gender equality.

The NSS Unit of the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences organized a Voter Awareness Programme on 25.03.2026 under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Scheme in view of the forthcoming Puducherry Legislative Assembly Election.
The welcome address was delivered by Mrs. Anishamary, Nursing Tutor. The resource persons, Dr. Govindaswamy, Election Officer, and Mr. D. Sathishkumar, Nodal NSS Officer, were honoured by Dr. Kavitha, Vice Principal, CON-EIMS.
The speakers provided awareness on the importance of voting and explained the use of the cVIGIL citizen app for reporting election-related violations. The students of B.Sc.(N) II year and B.Sc.(N) III year attended the programme. The programme created awareness among students and staff regarding their role in the democratic process.
NSS volunteers from the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, were deputed for Election Polling Duty and participated in the election process in Puducherry on 9th April 2026.
Forty volunteers were deployed at various polling stations to assist in the smooth conduct of the election process. They supported officials in managing queues, guiding voters, and ensuring orderly conduct at the polling booths.
Through this activity, the volunteers gained practical knowledge about the electoral process and developed a sense of responsibility, discipline, and civic awareness. Their active participation contributed to the successful and peaceful conduct of the election.
